Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

When I push the home button, and then return to the story-in-progress, the passages are all shuffled

Why does this happen? I'm admittedly new to Twine, but I've tested version 2.4 in Firefox, Chrome, and IE, and the results are the same. Whenever I hit the home button and then return to my game-in-progress, all the passages have been moved around and sometimes new passages have been added and old ones deleted.

  • Same thing here. Th e only way i found to solve it is to set 'Snap to grid'.

I don't have passages added or deleted
  • I've heard of people having this problem, but I haven't been able to duplicate it myself, which has been frustrating. Could you open your web browser's console (in Chrome, hit F12) while you edit to see if any errors appear there?

If you want to look, I took screenshots:

The first is before I hit the "home" button. The second is when I return to my story.

As you can see, the passages are not in the same place as before. If I move the passages to a new position, they hit home and return, they'll have shuffled to another random configuration. Sometimes they're shuffled so that they overlap each other.

Anyway, here's the error logs after several random shuffles:

  • I noticed you have a self-linking passage (20), does the issue happen when you don't have a passage like this?
  • Yes. Even if I remove self-links, the passages will shuffle. This time they also blanked out some of their text and disconnected normal link, which has happened randomly before.
  • I've created a bug for this. Just wondering, if you create a new story, does the same problem happen there?
  • Yes, every time I've started a new story, the same thing happens. Doesn't matter which browser.
  • Let me put together a build for you to try that will get us more diagnostic information about what is exactly going wrong here. I know this is annoying! But it's really good that we can predictably cause this problem as we weren't able to do that before. Please stay tuned.
  • Please try this:

And take a screenshot of the developer console as before.

Here you go. The first is before hitting home, the second is after resuming the game.
