Based on the fact that the markup link did not work I am going to assume you are using Harlowe.
The combination of a (link: ) macro with a (open-url: ) macro will do what you want: ... this works (assuming that the hyper-link is valid) but it does/can result in the link text being replaced with "[object Window]" after the link is selected.
One way to get around this side effect of the (open-url: ) macro is to wrap the code in a named hook and to use a (replace: ) macro to reshow the original link text:
