So I know this was asked a while back, but... How can I save variables and choices with Twine 2.1 and sugarcube 2? (There was an example of this in twine 1.x, however the attachment is no longer available.)

It appears the test case you linked to is no longer available on GitHub.

Also, is there a way to do this locally on the player's machine? Neither of the prior questions have examples for doing that, as far as I can tell.

It's not but the code still works and is all there. Should be easy enough to test yourself, but I can see if I still have it to reupload if you need me to.

The local storage route should work for that. The original method I posted there won't. The postmessage API answer should also work, though I haven't personally tested it.
