How best to handling spell checking? Is there a way to get spell check to work?

Hi All,

I'm new to Twine and am finding it to be an amazing tool. Creating an interactive story with Twine is a ton of fun.

Question...

What's the best way to handle spell checking? I'm typing directly into Twine, which is easier than writing in a separate doc and cutting and pasting. This method works great, but as I write fast and am not a great typist, I end up with a lot of spelling errors.

The usual in browser spelling check doesn't work. So, what's the best way to check spelling? Is there a way to turn on in-browser spell checking?

Thanks!

Aaron

  • Unfortunately the CodeMirror text editor (which is used instead of a standard Text Field because it supports features like syntax highlighting) in the Passage Editor is not considered an editable control by web-browsers and this means that the web-browser's built-in spell checker does not work (without hacks). This is a known CodeMirror issue.
  • I think it's generally good practice to write in a separate document first anyway, since that means you automatically have a backup of your work in a separate location.
  • But you can use "View copy for correction". There copy all your text, and paste it into a Google Docs or your preferred editor, and hunt for typos.

Alternatively, you can use Entweedle to export your game to Twee2 format.

Again, copy and paste all the generated script in your favourite editor and have fun spell checking!
  • There are many ways to get access to the contents of a story's passages so that you can use a third-party spellchecker on it, the real issue is the effort required to get the corrections back into the original passages.

  • Got it. Thanks for the info!
