Link macro not working

edited September 2016 in Help! with 2.0
I'm still fairly to both Twine and SugarCube 2.0 so I'm probably missing something but no matter what I do, even when copy-pasting ready <<link> macros I still get an error "Error: macro <<link>> does not exist". No matter how I always get the same error, even when copying it from SugarCube wiki site. Even pure <<link>> gives me the same kind of error, not even mentioning the lack of <</link>>.

As far as I know <<button>> macro works almost the same way as <<link>>. When I replace word "link" with "button" it works just fine, without giving me any errors. :/

I'd appreciate any help.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm working in SugarCube 2 (2.7.0).

Comments

  • The current release of SugarCube 2 is v2.9.0. The current <<link>> macro was added in v2.8.0, prior to that it was named <<click>>.

Updating your SugarCube 2 install to v2.9.0 is the recommended course of action. To install a newer version of SugarCube 2 you may simply copy the newer files over the ones from your existing install of SugarCube 2—naturally, you should only do this while Twine 2 is not open.
  • By looking at the patch notes it looks like it's getting pretty frequent updates. That explains why I wasn't able to use it. Shame they didn't mention that in the documentation. :/

Anyway, thank you kindly for your help. c:

I already do more than enough legacy-compatibility work in SugarCube itself. I am not going to do it within the documentation as well—at least, not outside of major version bumps. I realize that's an inconvenience to some, but you're better off staying updated in the first place.
  • I had no intention to offend SugarCube author and/or documentation editors in any way or suggest that they're incompetent or anything like that. You're right that I should have updated SugarCube in the first place and all of that happened because I downloaded the (now) old version of it few months ago and I'm still a complete newbie when it goes down to Twine and SugarCube.

So again, I'm not implying anything, it's just my whining because I couldn't find a pretty obvious solution to my "problem". That's it. Just some whining. Ignore.

    And thanks again.

Worry not, I wasn't offended. I was merely attempting to explain, poorly it seems, that I do not version the documentation outside of major version bumps and why, even knowing that not doing so can be an inconvenience to users.
