Hello, I submitted a similar question about this but because there seems to be no system of notifications, I got no further responses and was never told how to fix it.

To restate my question, I'm unable to access Twine 2 (the downloaded 64-bit version) on my Windows 10 Home Edition Laptop. It has worked in the past, although now it wont register it as compatible with my PC. Giving me the "This app can't run on your PC" I'm concerned how I can fix this, or if it's possible to retrieve the code within each passage from my saved files? I'm trying not to lose my work, so any tips to approaching this would be great! Thank you!

You probably didn't receive an answer the first time because it's unlikely that there's much we can do to help you.  Your issue is not specifically a Twine 2 issue.  It's a Windows issue, in general, and an issue with your Windows installation, specifically.

Your best bet to find a solution is likely going to be using a search engine (see: Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, etc).

Case in point, searching Google for "This app can't run on your PC windows 10" (sans quotes) yielded a plethora of results.

PS: The executable release stores your project data in files within your Documents directory under Twine\Stories, unlike the browser release which only stores them within its own storage.  Unless you manually delete those files, you shouldn't have to worry about losing data.

Though the main source of the problem isn't specifically something within the range of twine, I was still asking about the best way to retrieve data from the engine. You gave me a good answer so I appreciate that! I checked it out and I don't think it's working for me unfortunately. I may have to redownload Twine and hope it still keeps the files related to it. If not, I can manage. Thank you for your time!

What, searching for a solution or are you referring to something else?

I may have to redownload Twine and hope it still keeps the files related to it.

AFAIK, Twine 2 never removes those files unless you specifically tell it to, so that shouldn't need be a concern.  Though, backing them up someplace else couldn't hurt.

Yup, I made sure to back up the stories I had in Twine 2, though I hadn't updated the document on google docs for a bit so I was worried about losing the rest of the unsaved material. Also to include for lack of mutual understanding (miscommunication on my part) but I did dig around looking for a solution on what could have been responsible for my PC, though what was troubling me for my situation, was understanding exactly where I can go to retrieve data from my files; as I didn't know where Twine stored it. Though I appreciate your concern there... Thanks again.

It seems that when opening up the documents to Twine, it gives me a blank page. I believe it may have stopped appearing when Twine began to have issues with my computer?

It seems that when opening up the documents to Twine, it gives me a blank page.

Opening them how?  They're really only useful to Twine 2 or certain Twine 2 compatible Twee compilers (Tweego certainly, probably Twee2 as well).

The files themselves are not viewable HTML documents.  If you tried opening them in a browser, then you're going to get a blank page.  Opening them in a good text editor, not word processor, will allow you to look at/poke around the contents if you wish (so not Notepad and definitely not Wordpad or Word).

Alright yeah I just managed to get it to work! I tried re-downloading twine and it went through and everything seems to be in place :)

Thanks, TheMadExile!
